Cesar Romero, the actor who played the Joker in the 1960s television series, considered the mustache his trademark. Romero had made a career playing the quintessential Latin lover in the movies. . Because Cesar Romero refused to shave his mustache, the makeup artists had to cover it with as much makeup as they could. However, it did show up in a lot of close ups. . Anyway, keeping the mustache under the clown-white only made Romero’s Joker look crazier, so that little detail just added to the “camp,” another nod to the absurdity of the concept of the TV show. .
