How tabata works, is 20 seconds of work going all out, followed by 10 seconds of rest - repeated for 8 rounds. That's 4 minutes on an exercise! It is sure to push you to your limits. 🔥
If you are looking to maximise your fitness potential and fat loss in the shortest time possible, whilst maintaining lean muscle mass, I'd highly recommend tabata! 💯
There are other health benefits of tabata or other HIIT forms of training - it improves your cardiovascular and cardiometabolic health. What the heck does that mean? In simple terms, your body will be better able to regulate your blood pressure, deliver nutrients and oxygen around the body to function efficiently, and for yoyr muscles to take up fuel better, it also helps to improve insulin sensitivity - great news for diabetics! Your body also becomes better at using fat and carbs for energy, and storage of carbs in the muscle for use, rather than as fat tissue! #thatsawesome .
Studies show that those who perform high intensity interval training (8 min total) had much greater improvements in insulin sensitivity and cardiovascular system functioning, as well as fat rediction in the midsection compared to those who did steady state cardio (30 min run). This is not to say that running is useless, it has many other benefits, but HIIT is just more effective in a SHORTER time period. But it also carries its injury risks!
