Belated pics of my first fastpacking outing. Some would label it as a "learning experience" that favored the "direct approach" of telling you which alternative facts did and didn't work for, but really I just froze my balls off (example of the aforementioned alternative fact). Like I said, learning experience. Next time I'll just bring sturdier testes, maybe brass this time.
My entire sleep, food, layering, and first aid setup fits into my small 18L vest with a bit of room leftover and weighs less my everyday ski touring pack which already had the light 'n fast treatment. Warm, weather free, overnight trips could easily go into a 15L pack, whereas something a bit colder, or with the possibility for weather or more creature comforts will need a 20L or larger pack.
Overnight trip was a breeze to prepare for, a two night-three day trip with some variable weather will test my outdoorsy skills a bit more though. Still need a tarp for more hardy objectives, but otherwise I've got the most important ingredient, which is a handful of crazy ass friends who are also hungry for singletrack, sleeping under the stars, and Peanut M&Ms.
