How to tell the difference between dyed Howlite and natural Turquoise.
Dyed Howlite is commonly sold to people as natural Turquoise. Howlite is a white mineral that can be dyed to look exactly like Turquoise. It has natural webbing which makes it look just like real Turquoise. First thing you can do is feel the semiprecious stone along the webbing. If the stone is smooth that means it's Howlite that has been polished down and dyed. Next test is a destructive test - using nail polish remover with acetone rub it onto the stone, the dyed Howlite will return to its natural colour (as the dye is only on the surface of the stone). Be careful when buying natural Turquoise. 🌊
