"I've gotten to thinking a lot lately about how to be soft and how to be bold and how to crumble myself into a world that is so angry in a way that I am in it but not with it. Jesus was a master shapeshifter in that way. He came into a world with so much to say and he just listened, just sat down, just stuck out his hand. People in all their filth and all of their selfishness were heard by him.
I can't help but think about how if Jesus sat down with me at a table and asked me to tell him my absolute worst thing, my ugliest, cruelest, most human thing- how he would move his chair closer to mine, he would smile with his eyes, he would say- "But do you remember that really good thing you did? That's the one I see you for." And through the stubbornness of my human heart, I listen. It is because of the bold opinion that I am good from the God who calls himself friend that I choose to not gamble with the wobbly worth of the world."
